FOR WHOM IS PILGRIMAGE REQUIRED?
As we have already said, the pilgrimage is not an obligation
for the boys. But if these accompany their families, it is a commendable
action; which does not exempt them from fulfilling the pilgrimage once they
have reached their majority.
If the boys have not reached the age of reason, their
parents or guardians carry out all the Hagg rites for them. This was practiced
by the Prophet himself, according to the tradition of Gábir Ibn 'Abd Allah.
According to Al Sana'áni, the tuter says, instead of the boy, and speaking from
the heart: "I have put him in a sacred state (ihrám)".
As far as women are concerned, certain conditions must be
taken into account. Some ulemas insist on the fact that women must be
accompanied by a close relative, brother or son (mahárim), Others are not so
categorical at this point and declare that the woman can fulfill her
pilgrimage, whether accompanied by a next relative, of course.
He who dies without having carried out his pilgrimage, is
released from this obligation if his descendants carry it out for him, with
their own money, or if they can ask one to do it by delegation.
If a man is unable to fulfill the pilgrimage because of his
old age or of an incurable disease, he can choose a person and ask him to do it
in his place. This pilgrimage by, delegation is not valid unless in the case
that the designated person has already made the Hagg.
ALTOS (MAWAQUIT) OF THE GREAT PILGRIMAGE AND RESTRICTED
PILGRIMAGE
The word "mawáquit" must be taken, here, in a
broad sense, in such a way that it understands the idea of time, and of
places where the pilgrimage rites begin.
